Position Details (Two positions)

Level: Assistant Professor, Program Coordinator 
Employment Type:   Standard, tenure track position
Hours: Full-time, 10-month (30 credit hours per academic year)
Anticipated Start Date: Fall 2026 Semester
Work Location: One position will be supporting Gateway (New Haven) and Housatonic (Bridgeport) and the second position will be supporting Three Rivers (Norwich) and Capital (Hartford)
The incumbent is expected to spend a minimum of 2 days in each assigned campus.
Work Modality: On site; Position is not remote

Position Summary

All Teaching Faculty members shall: Prepare and teach college-approved courses in accordance with approved course descriptions and class schedules, including developing syllabi and reading lists and keeping each course taught complete and up to date; respond to and work with multiple constituencies, including students, peers (faculty and staff), and external agencies (business, community, educational, etc.); perform divisional departmental responsibilities in the selection of texts and related teaching resources; and other teaching and related duties as outlined on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair, or other administrator, the Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching thirty (30) credit hours per academic year and delivering a range of courses within the assigned discipline. Courses may be offered in lecture, hybrid, and/or online formats, and teaching schedules may include both day and evening classes.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Teaching courses within the assigned discipline area in accordance with institutional standards
  • Evaluating and assessing student learning outcomes
  • Providing student support, mentoring, and academic advising
  • Developing curriculum and periodically reviewing and updating instructional materials
  • Assisting with program reviews and accreditation-related activities
  • Planning and executing program-related events
  • Attending workshops, trainings, and/or professional conferences to maintain currency in the field

Program Coordinator duties include:

  • Recruit, advise, and retain students in designated program areas
  • Select appropriate part-time instructors
  • Schedule program courses
  • Hire and evaluate faculty
  • Establish and cultivate partnerships with local organizations and employers
  • Arrange and supervise student internships
  • Assess, evaluate, and continuously improve the program
  • Perform other duties as appropriately assigned to a Program Coordinator, in accordance with contract hours and the collective bargaining agreement
  • Utilize release time, as specified in the collective bargaining agreement, to perform required administrative functions

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational, and professional meetings, which may occur during evenings and weekends

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in public health or a Bachelor’s degree in public health with a Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Health Promotion, Health Education, Community Health, Epidemiology, etc).

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:

  • Four (4) years college teaching experience (96+ credits).
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

Preferred Qualifications

  • DrPH or PhD
  • Experience teaching in core areas of public health
  • Experience with launching a community health program, curriculum development, program assessment and evaluation
  • Experience supervising faculty or staff.
  • Experience using technology to enhance the learning environment, e.g., Blackboard, online instruction or other modalities/software.
