Job Description

The Raclin Murphy Museum of Art stands as a cornerstone of the University of Notre Dame’s commitment to the arts, serving as a vital gateway between the campus and the global community. To ensure the museum operates with precision and remains a trusted steward of its collections, the University is seeking an Associate Director of Operations and Special Projects.

This is a high-impact leadership role designed for a professional who thrives on operational complexity as this role is the operational backbone of the museum, providing comprehensive leadership across business functions, communications, memberships, and facility management.

Serving as a liaison to the Offices of the President and Provost, the Office of University Relations, and the Office of General Counsel, the Associate Director represents the museum’s interests in sensitive matters and strategic initiatives. This individual acts as a trusted partner to the Museum Director, leading special projects that require a high degree of discretion and complex problem-solving.

Operational leadership extends across three distinct facilities, primarily focused on the Snite facility and the Kenmore Center art storage. The Associate Director manages multi-part transportation systems and ensures the preservation of the collection through expert art handling. Furthermore, this role plays a vital role in upholding the University’s commitment to international and federal standards, overseeing specialized compliance such as NAGPRA and UNESCO.

By managing a dedicated team of staff, student workers, and external vendors, the Associate Director ensures the museum’s daily operations are as inspiring and well-maintained as the collections housed within the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art.
