The Clinical Medical Assistant provides clinical support to physicians and advanced care practitioners (APPs), other healthcare professionals and direct patient care to patients. Primary clinical duties include completing vital screenings, recording patients' personal information and medical history while adhering to confidentiality standards when working with patients.

Responsibilities: Prepares patients for examinations by taking and recording vital signs, updating medical records, and recording details regarding the reason for visit.
Assists providers during examinations as needed.
Answers phones, refills medications, and other administrative duties as required.
Performs basic clinical procedures and collects/prepares laboratory specimens.
Assists with office referrals and prior authorizations.
Prepares and maintains accurate patient medical records.
Perform pre charting as needed.
Maintains a clean and organized work environment throughout the day.
Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.
Follow infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
Administer medications and injections as ordered by the provider per Covenant Healthcare policies and procedures and regulatory agencies.
Coordinates x-rays, ultrasounds, labs, EKG's, etc., as ordered by the provider per Covenant Healthcare policies and procedures.
Sterilize medical equipment and dispose of contaminated supplies in appropriate disposal containers.
Maintain inventory of medical and/or office supplies within budgetary constraints.
Participates in staff meetings, in-service programs and continuing education activities as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned and/or vary based on medical specialty.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School diploma and/or equivalent required, AND (1) a successful completion of a competency-based Medical Assistant (MA) training program required. OR (2) One (1) year experience in clinical (direct patient care) and/or medical (administrative patient support) required. BLS certification required within six (6) months as a new hire or internal transfer.
