As a Staff Management Auditor (Specialist) with the California Lottery, you’ll lead high-impact audits that shape transparency and efficiency across our operations. This position is headquartered at the Lottery Headquarters in Sacramento and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. Employees must be able to report to their assigned headquarters office as assigned. Travel expense to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Eligibility for telework requires the employee to reside in California per California Government Code Section 14200 which states: “telecommuting means the partial or total substitution of computers or telecommunication technologies, or both, for the commute to work by employees residing in California.

Working Conditions

  1. Schedule: Full-time (8-hour days) with work hours between the times of 7am – 5pm  
  2. Travel: Travel may be required for conducting audits, local training, or off-site events.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of risk-based auditing, risk assessments, and data analytics.
  • Experience independently planning, organizing and conducting complex and technical audits. Effective project management skills. Effective analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems; Ability to meet business needs through innovative solutions.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, handle matters independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience writing clear, concise, and convincing audit reports, analyses, and correspondence.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to encourage efficiencies, mentor others, provide constructive feedback, and build effective working teams.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with staff and auditees.
  • Strong proficiency with basic PC applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Aptitude and desire for continuous learning.

Statement of Qualifications

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be submitted along with the State Application (STD. 678) and serves as documentation of the candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. The SOQ should be typed, no more than two (2) pages in length, using Arial size 12 pt. font, and standard margins. Resumes and cover letters do not take the place of the SOQ. The SOQ should specifically address each of the questions in numerical order. Applicants who fail to submit the SOQ or fail to follow the instructions will not be considered for this recruitment.

  1. Describe how your professional skills and past experiences demonstrate your ability to manage and execute audit projects effectively. In your response, provide specific examples of how you analyze complex information, maintain project timelines, keep work on track, and deliver assignments accurately and on time.
  2. Provide specific examples of instances where you produced high-quality audit work, delivered clear and well-supported audit reports, and successfully worked with individuals at all levels of an organization to achieve strong audit outcomes.
