Overview:Physician shall be a full-time exempt employee of Beebe Healthcare and be required to work SEVEN (7) twelve (12)-hour shifts, or eighty-four (84) hours, per three-week period (One week on, two weeks off), at the direction and discretion of the Director of Medical Education for a total of One-Hundred-Twenty-Eight (128) twelve (12)-hour shifts per fiscal year (the Shift Requirement).
The academic nocturnist will be responsible for providing high-quality inpatient care, clinical and didactic teaching, and clinical leadership within an academic medical setting.
Responsibilities:1. Patient Care
a.Provide best practice using evidence based inpatient care for patients across a wide variety of medical conditions. Conduct daily rounds, including the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of hospitalized patients. Provide inpatient services in such a manner to assure that professional standards are being met on a consistent and regular basis.
b.Manage patient's care throughout the entire inpatient stay. Managing patients care includes but may not be limited to: facilitating diagnostic testing and results; scheduling procedures; accelerating patients progress through the healthcare system; and managing utilization and discharge planning.
e.Coordinate care across specialties and collaborate with consultants and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
f.Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. In conjunction with the Quality and Safety Committee and other appropriate committees, participate in quality assurance activities, conduct quality assurance studies and where indicated, correct all deficiencies noted in any such study.
g.Interact in a positive and constructive manner with all team members, patients, resident physicians, students and medical staff members.
h.Use best efforts to schedule all Healthcare System ancillary testing to be completed as early as the next day if possible.
i.Use best efforts to provide professional services to patients in a timely basis in order to minimize delay of discharges beyond 11:00 am.
j.Serve on medical staff committees as reasonably requested by the Chief Physician Executive, Physician in Chief, Director of Medical Education, Designated Institutional Official or administration.
m.Follow established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement and safety objectives, environmental and infection control standards.
n.Follow established Beebe standards, departmental policies, and Medical Staff Bylaws.
o.Provide input in a mutually agreed fashion to administration regarding non-physician staff and the performance and duties related to inpatient services.
a.Supervise, teach, and mentor medical students, resident physician and fellows during their clinical rotations. Priority is to teach and advance learner knowledge and patient safety.
b.Deliver bedside teaching, case presentations, and didactic learning.
c.Foster an environment of learning and professional development, encouraging critical thinking and evidence-based decision making.
d.Participate in the development and delivery of educational curriculum for medical students, resident physicians and fellows.
e.Provide timely and appropriate feedback to learners on a regular basis and assist in their career development. Feedback will be provided formally and informally throughout the educational experience. Formal written evaluations must be completed via the approved residency management suite.
f.Actively participates in institutional and program level scheduled meetings, including but not limited to Faculty Meetings, the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) in collaboration with residency Program Director(s).
g.Attends didactics regularly and presents lectures throughout the year.
h.May assist in the recruiting, interviewing, selection and ranking of prospective residents during recruitment season in collaboration with respective residency Program Director.
i.Participates in academic meetings, conferences and workshops to stay current with emerging trends in hospital medicine and academic medicine.
j.Participates in schorlarly activity projects with medical students, resident physicians and/or fellows.
k.Participates in faculty development activities as sponsored by the Office of Medical Education.
l.Communicates regularly with residency Program Director(s) on resident physician academic progress.
m.Communicates regularly with Medical Education leadership and Medical Director of hospitalist on the workflow/operations of the academic service.
