I. Job Summary
As a Smart Truck Technician, you will work under general supervision and be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment. You will utilize your technical expertise and problem -solving skills to ensure the safe and efficient operation of machinery, vehicles, and systems.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Keep a clean, organized, and area free of hazards to promote a safe and efficient work environment while following established safety procedures, including Hazardous Energy Control Procedures (HECP) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Communicate directions and details clearly with the team, both in person and in writing, to ensure everyone is aligned. Collaborate with technicians, mechanics, and supervisors to troubleshoot complex issues and share knowledge.
- Consistently deliver top-quality work, minimizing the need for repeat repairs and completing tasks efficiently within Standard Repair Times (SRTs) and communicate if additional work is needed or if repairs cannot be completed within SRTs.
- Support: Provide positive and constructive feedback to leadership and your peers to assist with your fleet's improvements.
- Be open to feedback and guidance, demonstrating a willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and best practices. Show a proactive attitude in seeking coaching and using it to continuously improve your skills and performance.
- Document Work and Parts Usage: Keep track of your effort by documenting every repair, replacement, and maintenance task. Dive into the details of your work by recording parts usage, labor hours, and diagnostic results, while utilizing WMs fleet maintenance software.
- Test and Adjust Systems: Analyze systems and components to verify optimal functionality and alignment. Utilize advanced tools to adjust configurations, calibrate sensors, and fine-tune system parameters, ensuring peak performance and maximum efficiency.
- Diagnose Mechanical Issues: Perform comprehensive diagnostic tests to accurately identify mechanical problems and malfunctions in WMs fleet. Utilize advanced diagnostic tools, software, and specialized equipment to thoroughly analyze issues, pinpoint the root cause, and develop the most efficient and effective repair strategies. Ensure that each diagnosis is precise, contributing to long-lasting solution.
- Repair and Replace Components: Perform hands-on repairs and replacements on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, electrical systems, and other key mechanical components. Work with precision, following manufacturer specifications and safety protocols to deliver top-quality repairs and ensure vehicles run at peak performance.
- Maintain Tools and Equipment: Collaboratively maintain and care for tools, equipment, and shop facilities to ensure they remain in safe and excellent working condition for the whole team.
- Provide Support: Bring positive and constructive feedback to leadership and your peers to aid with your fleet’s improvements. Willingness to support and guide fellow technicians, helping them learn and grow in repair skills and WM procedures.
- Assist your sites operations team with roadside calls when a failure happens on route.
III. Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications
- 2 years as a mechanic technician working on heavy equipment/trucks or similar role, preferably in a diesel, automotive, construction, or industrial setting
- 2 years inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks
- 2 years inspecting, diagnosing, replacing, and repairing major items such as diesel/CNG engines, transmissions, driveline, and suspension. Along with sub items, turbos, EGR coolers, starters, instrument clusters, wheel-ends, and equipment electrical systems.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located
- Driver's License Valid driver’s license
B. Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
- Certification from a technical school or vocational training program in automotive technology or a related field
- Certificate in electrical diagnostics
- Applicable Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications
