WITH Tas is incredibly excited to announce that with generous funding support from the Tasmanian Government, we are able to offer a sponsored place in the Australian Institute of Company Directors' (AICD) 'Company Directors Course', held in Hobart 16 – 20 August 2021.

The Company Directors course provides attendees with the tools to improve their performance, decision-making skills and better understand their duties and responsibilities on a board. The course also offers pragmatic professional development that will have a long-lasting impact on your director career.

Who should apply?

The Company Directors Course will benefit a range of women including those already appointed to boards and wanting to improve their knowledge and skills; middle and senior managers aspiring to attain a board position; women who are active on boards or committees outside  their profession, for example not-for-profits and community boards; and professionals who report to a board.

To get the most out of the course, it is preferred that you have a minimum of two years’ experience with a committee or board. Be it liaising with, reporting to, or sitting on a committee or board.

This scholarship opportunity is available for one eligible woman currently working within the Tasmanian tourism and hospitality sectors. The successful applicant must be available to attend in person on the course dates, as well as being available from 1 July 2021 to undertake the pre-course reading and any online requirements.

The Scholarship Award

The Company Directors Course is valued at $8,250 (includes AICD joining fee and annual membership). As demonstration of their commitment to completing the course, the successful applicant will be required to make a 20% co-contribution of $1,650, payable on receipt of invoice from WITH Tas.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the scholarship, candidates must:
• Be female;
• Be an Australian citizen, or holder of a visa that enables the applicant to live in Australia for at least the next five years;
• Be a resident of Tasmania;
• Not been disqualified as a director or removed from a board;
• Be able to commit to course timings;
• Be able to commit to successfully completing the required course assessment within the stipulated timeframe;
• Be able to commit to completing all post course and program surveys;
• Be working in the Tasmanian tourism or hospitality sector. This need not be full time employment;
• Be able to provide a short report to the WITH Tas Committee on the value of completing the course, key areas of learning  and how it will benefit their future professional advancement.

The selection panel will take into consideration a candidate's individual reasons for applying for the scholarship, professional experience and career aspirations. An individual's financial circumstances that impact their ability to otherwise access the course may be taken into consideration. You do not need to be a WITH member to apply for this scholarship. You just need to meet the criteria outlined above.

FAQs

Are the details of my scholarship application confidential?
Application details will not be released outside the selection panel without your prior written consent.

When will the referees be contacted?
The selection panel will agree upon a shortlist of candidates from 15 June to 20 June. During this time, the referees of the short-listed candidates may then be contacted to verify and comment on the application. The successful applicant will be contacted on 21 June 2021.

Will WITH Tas release or publish the scholarship recipient's name?
WITH Tas and the Tasmanian Government reserve the right to publish the full name and organisation of the recipient.

I work in the industry, but I'm not a WITH member. Can I apply?
Yes. You do not need to be a WITH member to apply for this scholarship. You just need to meet the criteria outlined above.

I don't have committee or board experience. Can I apply?
Yes. Provided that you meet the eligibility criteria, you may apply. The course content is of a high calibre and it is preferred that attendees have some prior board/committee experience. But it is not essential. The pre-reading will assist in bringing your knowledge to the level required at the course.
