Meet Emily Hopwood
STOP PRESS: Emily Hopwood was successful in her application to join the TICT Board. Congratulations Emily!
For the last 12 months, WITH Tas has been fortunate to have had representation on the TICT Board in the Associations College with our nominee, Kath McCann. Kath's tenure on the TICT Board has come to an end and she is moving on to other exciting opportunities and challenges! Good luck, Kath, and thank you for your support of WITH during this time.
We've been working hard behind the scenes to secure a replacement nominee and we are delighted to announce that Emily Hopwood, Sales & Marketing Manager at West Coast Wilderness Railway, has nominated as the WITH Tas representative for election to the Associations College in 2021.
Emily presented an impressive candidate's statement:
I have worked in hospitality and tourism for over 20 years and, during this time, have worked across small and large businesses in private enterprise as well as with Tourism Tasmania and as Tourism Services Manager with Hobart City Council responsible for management of the Tasmanian Travel & Information Centre - Hobart which provides a state-wide booking and information service.
I am a born and bred Taswegian with interstate experience working across various hotel groups. Returning in 2011 with a small family in tow, I maintained regional hotel revenue and distribution roles before stepping into a leadership role with RACT Destinations.
During my tenure with RACT as General Manager of Tourism Operations, I had the opportunity to complete the Australian Institute of Company Director's (AICD) course and have since worked closely with a small number of volunteer committees and boards.
As part of my current role as Sales and Marketing Manager, West Coast Wilderness Railway, I work closely with the local business association, Destination West Coast and the marketing sub-committee. I also hold the role of Public Officer for a (non-tourism) not-for-profit board registered with the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID).
As the nominee for Women in Tourism and Hospitality Tasmania Inc. (WITH Tas), I am keen to continue the work of the current WITH Tas nominee, Kath McCann. I am a strong advocate for equality and inclusiveness across our industry and believe that a successful future needs strong education, mentoring and training outcomes now, and long-term planning for a holistically sustainable industry in the future.
